Overview

Canada issues visas and permits through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). With strong study, work, and settlement programmes, the country attracts hundreds of thousands of international applicants yearly.

Moroccan residents submit applications online and provide biometrics at VFS Global centres in Casablanca or Rabat. Whether you are planning to study, work, visit family, or immigrate, the process always begins with creating an IRCC secure account, gathering evidence, and paying mandatory fees.

This guide explains the main visa categories, required documents, timelines, and post-approval steps so you can approach your Canadian application with confidence.

Canada Visa Types

Issued to students accepted by Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs). Allows on-campus/off-campus work up to 20 hours per week during term, full-time in scheduled breaks, and can lead to the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

For tourism, business visits, short courses (<6 months), and family visits. Typically valid for up to 10 years with stays of six months per entry. Most Moroccan citizens require a TRV sticker in their passport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa or eTA to enter Canada?

Moroccan citizens require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) for short visits. An eTA is only available to passport holders from visa-exempt countries.

What is the Student Direct Stream (SDS)?

SDS is a faster study permit programme requiring IELTS 6.0 in each band, CAD 20,635 Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC), first-year tuition paid, and medical/bio completed upfront.

How long can I stay with a visitor visa?

Generally up to six months per entry. The officer may stamp or note a different duration in your passport.

Can my spouse work in Canada while I study?

Yes. Eligible spouses/common-law partners of full-time students at DLIs may apply for an open work permit valid for the same duration as the study permit.

Do I need to pay tuition before applying for the study permit?

Most institutions require the first semester or first year deposit. Proof of payment strengthens your application and is mandatory for SDS.

Is an interview required?

IRCC rarely conducts interviews, but you must attend biometrics and medical exams. Additional interviews occur only in complex cases.

Can I extend my stay after arrival?

Yes. Apply online for a study or work permit extension at least 30 days before expiry. Visitor records can be extended while in Canada.

What happens if my application is refused?

IRCC provides refusal reasons. Address all concerns and reapply with stronger evidence. You may request GCMS notes for detailed officer comments.

Do I need to submit original documents?

Most submissions are electronic. Keep originals for biometrics appointment and border inspection; IRCC may request originals at any time.

How early should I apply?

Apply at least 3–4 months before your intended travel or programme start date to allow for processing and passport stamping.
